The Wisdom of Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett, born 1930, one of the world's most wealthy people.
- It takes often up to 20 years to build a good reputation (be it in business or life in general) and just 5 minutes to ruin your reputation. When you reflect often on that, you do things differently.
- When you pass 70, you will really mostly measure success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you, actually do love you.
- I really think people like myself should be paying a lot more in taxes, we have it better now than we ever had it !! (in 2015, Buffett, a multi billionaire, without full on tax minimisation as very many others like him indulge in, paid tax at a rate of 16%, while almost everyone working for him paid tax at a rate of 33%, minimum.)
Buffett believes there should be increased inheritance tax and estate tax to avoid the USA becoming even more a PLUTOCRACY. Buffett made a comment along the lines of : The USA will not choose its 2020 Olympic team from only the oldest sons of US medal winners in the 1996 or 2000 Olympics.
(BTW could anyone seriously imagine men like George W Bush and Donald Trump rising as high as they did in wealth and power without having been the sons of very wealthy, successful men ? Had they been born to fathers who were average blue collar workers, George and Donald and others like them would have risen no higher than maybe moderately successful used car or insurance salesmen, if that.) Also, be it in China, the European Union nations and Russia etc, how many leaders of nations, leaders of political parties and so on achieved what they achieved their whole lives on ability, hard work and merit, compared to many who end up on top in the USA ?
Buffett also believes in the USA the capitalist system there results in the rich earning outsized rewards for their talents.
Gates and Zuckerberg have signed have signed a pledge, a promise, to eventually donate half their billions to charity and philanthropic causes.......while Buffett has pledged to give away 99% of his wealth to charity and good causes; when he does that he will be left with approx.: $900 million, which is 1% of approx.; $90 billion.
Buffett's annual shareholders meetings are called "The Woodstock of Business."
Buffett, one of the world's wealthiest men, still lives in a house he bought in 1958 for $31,000.
He has only ever written one email; he does not carry a mobile phone; there is no computer on his desk; but he reads from 5 newspapers each day; and plays bridge up to 12 hours a week.
IF ONLY all billionaires and multi millionaires were similar in several important ways (like sanity, decency and generosity) to Warren Buffett ! What a better place the world would be !!
