Some recent thoughts:
Over the past 2 years I have read a lot and studied some courses online...
Some recent various and miscellaneous thoughts regarding postmodernism, applied postmodernism, intersectional feminism, critical race theory, gender studies, queer studies, fat studies and any or all other “grievance studies”.....
Why do scholars in these fields seem to so often ignore and or disregard the appalling (sometimes nightmare) levels of sexism, misogyny, racism and homophobia etc that occurs in many non western, non white and non Christian nations and cultures? Why does it often seem their focus is 99% on the racism, sexism and homophobia that occurs in functioning Western democracies, when the reality is that most functioning Western democracies have come so far since the 1950s/1960s in becoming WAY LESS racist and sexist and homophobic?
And when colonialism and imperialism is condemned why is it almost always only the colonialism and imperialism of Western Europe and the USA that is condemned and not the colonialism or imperialism that was undertaken by the Romans, the Persians, the Ottoman Empire, the Chinese, the Russians or the Japanese ?
When one sees crazy, brainwashed, Woke students on university campuses in the USA and the UK and so on raving about racism and sexism and homophobia etc can’t they see that a university campus in the west in 2020 would have to be THE LEAST racist and sexist and homophobic places in the world right now and the least racist and sexist etc places in history......yet these idiots claim to see racism and sexism etc everywhere!
And claiming reality, society and history can best be understood as oppressor groups and oppressed groups; men oppressing women, whites oppressing blacks and heterosexual people oppressing LGBT+ people etc and so on.... How simplistic! Of course such oppression has existed and still exists but whether it is on the level of extended families, local communities and state or federal politics etc....there has been and always will be more going on than simply POWER being exercised by oppressor groups.....what also often can take place is compromise and cooperation between different groups and occasionally even a little compassion and forgiveness between men and women, whites and blacks and straights and gays and so on..........and in a nation like the USA or the UK or Australia how often can a person who is female or black, brown or Asian or gay etc rise to the top because he or she is very intelligent and hard working individual and or has great social and people skills and great communication skills, that many straight, white males might lack?
Also, take a person who is a black lesbian in a nation like the USA or the UK or Australia. Other factors can come into play. What if that woman who is black and lesbian is also very intelligent, very good looking and or has very wealthy parents, or has a law or economics degree from university, makes a half million a year and lives in wealthy neighbourhood, and or was raised and nurtured as a child with love and acceptance and is popular with heaps of great friends and on and on.......
And what sort of power and privilege do millions of straight, white males have when they might also have any one or any combination of the following: having a low IQ, having a low paid job or no job or even be homeless; were physically, emotionally and or sexually abused as children and as adults are really messed up, and are alcoholics or drug addicts, with few or no real friends or have a physical disability or suffer from severe mental illness and on and on......in millions of individual cases, can factors and circumstances dictate that millions of straight, white males have very little to no real power or privilege ?
( to be continued.......)
BTW - I now have CLL - Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (sp?) ie: blood cancer. I turn 58 next month.
